The spider in Residence Massacre (officially known as The Spider) is a hostile anomaly introduced in Night 3 at Lakeview Camp. Mechanically originating as the severed, arachnid-like head of the Mutated Worker, this entity acts as an aggressive harasser designed to flush players out of safe zones. While it does not instantly kill on contact, failing to repel the Spider deals heavy damage and triggers a "marked" status that summons the patrolling Mutated Worker directly to your cabin.
Surviving Night 3 requires understanding the Spider's breach behaviors, utilizing window defenses, and knowing when to use your limited shotgun ammunition.
What Is the Spider in Residence Massacre?
During the Night 3 prelude, the companion Worker succumbs to infection inside the lodge, splitting open and mutating. While the Worker's headless torso becomes the massive Mutated Worker that patrols the camp trails, his head detaches to become The Spider.
The Spider acts independently throughout the night (12:00 AM to 6:00 AM), harassing anyone trying to hole up inside Cabins 1 through 4.

Spider Spawn Behavior and Attack Cycle
When players take shelter inside a cabin, The Spider periodically spawns outside and attempts to breach the perimeter.
1. Infiltration via Windows and Wall Holes
Each cabin features four windows and a wall hole in the back. When the Spider arrives, it perches on a window sill or outside the hole for several seconds.
- If the glass or shutter is intact, the Spider must take time to break through before it can reach inside.
- Audio cues are essential: players using headphones can hear distinct shuffling and wood-creaking sounds indicating exactly which window or opening the Spider has chosen.
2. The Lunge and the "Marked" Mechanic
If a player stands too close to an open window or hole while the Spider is perched, it can mark the player immediately without dealing damage. Otherwise, it will lunge inside:
- Direct Hit: If the lunge connects, the Spider triggers a jumpscare, inflicts 35 damage, marks the player, and despawns.
- The Consequence: Marking causes the Mutated Worker outside to scream and sprint directly at the cabin. The Mutated Worker will kick down the front door and permanently smash the cabin's lights. Once a cabin's door is destroyed, hiding under the beds will no longer protect a marked player.
How to Counter and Defend Against the Spider
Because shotgun ammunition is severely restricted on Night 3, players cannot simply spam weapons to survive. A multi-layered defense strategy is necessary.
Use the Cabin Lights
Each cabin has a light switch beside the door. Turning the lights on causes the Spider to move and enter noticeably slower, buying vital extra seconds to aim and react.
- Warning: Leaving lights on continuously strains the cabin's fuse box. The lights will make an electrical buzzing noise before blowing out the exterior fuses.
- Fuse Repair: If a fuse box blows, you must exit to the side of the cabin and click every unlit breaker switch three times to restore power.
Shutters and Window Barriers
Windows come equipped with pull-down shutters. When closed, shutters force the Spider to spend several seconds clawing them open before entering.
- Important Shotgun Interaction: Do not shoot while the shutter is down. Shutters will absorb shotgun blasts without breaking and without damaging the Spider, wasting precious shells. Wait until the Spider tears through the shutter before firing.
- The Hammer: Players who purchase the Hammer from the Coins Shop (300 Coins) can bring it into Night 3 to repair broken window shutters up to three times per hammer, renewing cabin defense.
The Shotgun
The lodge contains a Shotgun on the central table before the night begins.
- Firing a single shell at the Spider destroys it immediately, forcing it to despawn.
- The Shotgun holds a maximum of two shells at a time.
- Firing two shots alerts the Mutated Worker to your cabin to investigate. When you run out of shells, you must wait for the Mutated Worker to finish checking your cabin, then slip out to one of the two active ammunition caches scattered across the camp crossroads.
Dodging Lunges
If you are caught without ammunition or caught outside a cabin, you can dodge the Spider's attack. When the Spider prepares to leap, sprint sharply to the left or right. If the Spider misses two consecutive lunges, it automatically despawns. Successfully dodging this leap awards the official Spider Sense badge.
Shop Item Counters: Flare Gun
Unlocked in the Coins Shop for 2,500 Coins after obtaining the "Hello World" badge, the multi-use Flare Gun can be brought into Night 3. Unlike the Mutated Worker (who is stunned by flare fire), The Spider is scared away and instantly despawns when hit with a flare shell, conserving your shotgun ammunition.
Night 3 Modifier Variations
When playing with active modifiers, the Spider undergoes visual and mechanical changes:
- Bloodmoon: The Spider's eyes glow red. Its spawn intervals are significantly shorter, and the time it takes to break through openings and enter cabins is drastically reduced. Keeping cabin lights on becomes almost mandatory to react in time.
- Graves: The Spider's appearance is adjusted to match the seasonal undead aesthetic, appearing alongside patrolling Undead Pumpkins.
- Blizzard: The Spider gains green skin color, blue spider like legs, green pupils, and a christmas hat on it. Because players must manage heaters and cabin temperatures during Blizzard, managing the Spider quickly without blowing the cabin fuse box is essential for keeping heating units running.
- Camp Chaos: Combines all environmental hazards simultaneously. The Spider attacks with Bloodmoon speed while cold temperatures and broken fuses force rapid movement between cabins.
Related Badges
Engaging with the Spider in Night 3 allows players to complete several official Roblox badges:
- Spider Sense: Dodge a spider lunge by sprinting left or right when it leaps.
- Sharpshooter: Hit the Spider with a snowball (available during seasonal/blizzard events).
- Clean Escape: Complete Night 3 from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM without any player being jumpscared or marked by the Spider.
- Pacifist: Complete Night 3 without firing the Shotgun a single time, requiring players to rely entirely on shutter delays, dodging, or cabin rotation strategies.
- Ecologist: Survive Night 3 by entering only a single cabin for the entire match. Completing this requires meticulous ammo management, dodging the Spider or shooting it cleanly, and avoiding door destruction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Spider instantly kill you?
No. A successful Spider lunge deals 35 damage. However, it also marks you, which causes the Mutated Worker to sprint to your cabin, smash the entrance door, and attempt to finish you off.
Can you hide under beds from the Spider?
No. Beds only protect players from the visual detection of the patrolling Mutated Worker. The Spider can still enter the cabin and attack players hiding under beds.
Can the Spider attack outside of cabins?
Yes. If you are outdoors traversing between cabins or collecting shotgun ammo, the Spider will home directly in on your character to initiate a lunge rather than perching on windows.
Why did my shotgun shot do nothing to the Spider on the window?
If the window's shutter is rolled down, the wooden shutter absorbs the shotgun pellets completely. The shutter will not break, the Spider will take no damage, and your shell will be wasted. Wait until the Spider breaks through the shutter before firing.
